WCAG 2.2

What we built in

WCAG is organised around four principles. These are the concrete things we did for each one.

Perceivable

Information can be seen, heard or read in more than one way.

  • WCAG 1.1.1Every meaningful image has a text alternative; decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
  • WCAG 1.3.1Real headings, lists, landmarks and tables with captions, so the structure is clear without seeing it.
  • WCAG 1.4.3Text contrast of at least 4.5:1, and at least 3:1 for controls and focus indicators.
  • WCAG 1.4.10Content reflows to 320 pixels wide and zooms to 400% without horizontal scrolling.

Operable

Everything works with a mouse, a keyboard, touch or a switch.

  • WCAG 2.1.1Menus, the photo gallery, the lightbox, videos and the language switcher all work with a keyboard alone.
  • WCAG 2.4.1A skip link jumps straight to the main content on every page.
  • WCAG 2.4.7A clear, high-contrast focus ring on every link, button and control.
  • WCAG 2.2.2Moving content can be paused, and all animation stops when your system asks for reduced motion.

Understandable

Content and navigation behave the way you expect.

  • WCAG 3.1.1Each page declares its language, so screen readers use the right voice and pronunciation.
  • WCAG 3.1.2Language names in the switcher are marked up in their own language.
  • WCAG 3.2.3The main menu stays in the same place and order on every page.
  • WCAG 2.4.8Breadcrumbs and unique page titles always show where you are.

Robust

The site works with today’s and tomorrow’s assistive technologies.

  • WCAG 4.1.2Native buttons, links, dialogs and disclosures with correct names, roles and states.
  • WCAG 4.1.3Status messages, such as the photo counter in the lightbox, are announced without moving focus.
  • WCAG 1.3.2Pages are delivered as server-rendered HTML in a logical reading order.

WCAG 2.2

Every new WCAG 2.2 criterion, met.

WCAG 2.2 added six success criteria at Levels A and AA. nzaero.eu meets all of them.

  • WCAG 2.4.11Met

    Focus Not Obscured (Minimum)

The fixed header never covers the element in focus: pages scroll with a top offset, so focus always stays in view.

  • WCAG 2.5.7Met

    Dragging Movements

The photo gallery can be dragged, and everything also works with single taps on the arrow buttons or with the arrow keys.

  • WCAG 2.5.8Met

    Target Size (Minimum)

Interactive targets are at least 24 by 24 pixels, and most buttons are 44 to 48 pixels.

  • WCAG 3.2.6Met

    Consistent Help

Contact details appear in the same place in the footer of every page, next to the Contact button in the header.

  • WCAG 3.3.7Met

    Redundant Entry

There are no multi-step forms, so you never have to enter the same information twice.

  • WCAG 3.3.8Met

    Accessible Authentication (Minimum)

No logins, passwords or CAPTCHAs anywhere on the site.

How we test

  1. Automated audits

axe-core with the WCAG 2.2 A and AA rule sets on every page template, plus Google Lighthouse.

  2. Keyboard only

Every menu, gallery, video and dialog is used from start to finish without a mouse.

  3. Zoom and reflow

Pages are checked at 200% and 400% zoom and at 320 pixels wide.

  4. User preferences

We check that animation stops when your system asks for reduced motion.

Known limitations

The following content comes from third parties. Under WCAG, this makes our statement one of partial conformance for third-party content.

  • YouTube videos

Videos are hosted by YouTube, so captions and the player controls depend on YouTube. The key facts from each video are also written out on our pages.

  • PDF brochures

Brochures are published by NZAero on aerospace.co.nz and may not be fully tagged for screen readers. Ask us and we will send the information in another format.

  • External websites

Links to aerospace.co.nz, 750xl.com and social networks lead to sites this statement does not cover.
